The Commonwealth of Dominica International Maritime Registry offers yacht owners, both commercial and private, cost effective yacht registration with no tonnage tax or size restrictions. The Commonwealth of Dominica boasts one of the largest private yacht registries in the world and is fast becoming recognized as one of the top five.   

In addition, the Registry provides a free self-inspection program to help private yacht owners ensure that safety and security on their craft is of paramount importance.  The Commonwealth of Dominica International Maritime Registry even offers a Yacht Masters License (Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessel for Twelve (12) Passengers or Less) through our mariner and seafarer training program delivered by Northeast Maritime Institute – College of Maritime Science comprehensive maritime learning management system, Northeast Maritime Online – NEMO.

How to Register a Yacht with the Commonwealth of Dominica International Ship Registry

Step 1 - Provisional Registration

  1. After contacting the DMA Registration Department, client is provided with application forms to proceed with Provisional Registration
    • CDVR-7002 (Registration Requirements for a Private Yacht) provides a checklist and clarification of items needed for registration.
  2. Client provides completed applications to Registration.
  3. Upon receipt of complete information and Payment of Registration Fees, client is issued Provisional Registration by DMA.
    • Provisional Registration is often possible in a 24-hour time frame.

Step 2 - Permanent Registration

  1. Upon issuance of Provisional Registration, client provides final documentation including Proof of Liability Insurance (P&I Cover note) and Deletion Certificate from Previous Flag.
    • CDVR-7002 (Registration Requirements for a Private Yacht) provides a checklist and clarification of items needed for registration.
  2. Once final documentation is received, DMA issues permanent registration. Welcome to Dominica!
