General Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old Sea-Time of
- 12 months training and approved sea service, OR
- approved training and sea time program not less than 6 months, OR
- qualifications that meet the technical competencies in table A-III/7 and an approved period of sea service not less than 3 months
- 1/3 of the sea service shall be on vessels of 750kW or more
Application Requirements
- Completed Dominica Application for Certificate of Competence and Physical Examination Report
- Submit copy of passport with application
- Submit Sea Service Letters or copies of discharge papers
- Include all copies of held licenses, Certificates of Competence, training certificates, completed assessments and training record book
Training Requirements
Basic Training includes the following courses:
- Basic Firefighting
- First Aid
- Personal Survival Techniques
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities

This course provides training in accordance with Table A-III/7 of the STCW code. Subjects include: the safe use of electrical equipment, monitoring electrical systems and machinery, shipboard AC and DC systems, hand tools, measuring instruments, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair, handling of stores, pollution prevention and workplace safety. (Minimum 240 hours)
This course is intended to provide the knowledge required to enable personnel without designated security duties in connection with a Ship Security Plan (SSP) to enhance ship security in accordance with the requirements of Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the ISPS Code and section A-VI/6-1 of the STCW Code, as amended. (Minimum 4 hours)
