General Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Meet the requirements for RFPEW
- Sea-Time of 6 months under supervision of an officer or rating OR pre-sea training and 2 months sea time under the supervision of an officer or a rating
- Sea-Time of 12 months served as a RFPEW OR 6 months as a RFPEW with the completion of approved training
Application Requirements
- Completed Dominica Application for Certificate of Competence and Physical Examination Report
- Submit copy of passport with application
- Submit Sea Service Letters or copies of discharge papers
- Include all copies of held licenses, Certificates of Competence, training certificates, completed assessments and training record book
Training Requirements
(if submitting with only 6 months of service as RFPEW)
This course meets the requirements of Table A-III/5 of the STCW Code. Topics include: watchkeeping procedures, communication, operation of main propulsion and auxiliary machinery, fuel systems, oil transfer operations, bilge and ballast systems, safe use of electrical equipment, cargo handling equipment, equipment operation, maintenance and repair, stores, pollution prevention and safe working practices. (Minimum 120 hours)
Basic Training includes the following courses:
- Basic Firefighting
- First Aid
- Personal Survival Techniques
- Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities

This course is intended to provide the knowledge required to enable personnel without designated security duties in connection with a Ship Security Plan (SSP) to enhance ship security in accordance with the requirements of Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the ISPS Code and section A-VI/6-1 of the STCW Code, as amended. (minimum 4 hours)
