What are the STCW Requirements for Able Seafarer Deck (II/5)?

General Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Meet the requirements of RFPNW
    • 6 months or pre-sea training + 2 months sea time
  • Sea Time – 18 months while qualified as RFPNW or 12 months with approved training

Application Requirements

  • Completed Dominica Application for Certificate of Competence and Physical Examination Report
  • Submit copy of passport with application
  • Submit Sea Service Letters or copies of discharge papers
  • Include all copies of held licenses, Certificates of Competence, training certificates, completed assessments and training record book

Training Requirements

This course meets the requirements of Tale A-II/5 of the STCW Code. Subjects include: watchkeeping duties, mooring systems and procedures, cargo handling and stowage. (Minimum 80 hours)

This course is intended to provide the knowledge required to enable personnel without designated security duties in connection with a Ship Security Plan (SSP) to enhance ship security in accordance with the requirements of Chapter XI-2 of SOLAS 74 as amended, the ISPS Code and section A-VI/6-1 of the STCW Code, as amended. (Minimum 4 hours)

(Training is required only for personnel serving on ships with Fast Rescue Boats.)
This course meets the requirements of Table A-VI/2-2 of the STCW Code and includes subjects such as: launching and recovery of a fast rescue boat, construction, safety features, handling in prevailing sea conditions, etc. (Minimum 40 hours)

This course meets the training requirements of Table A-VI/2-1 of the STCW code. It covers topics such as inflatable liferafts, launching and recovery of lifeboats, survival equipment and oar commands. (Minimum 40 hours)
